We developed a group calendar to manage where people are and when. It all shows at a corporate calendar. Users can create a view on the fly with a calendar for their department or other departments. in addition, you can export a weekly attendance report into Excel on the fly. We manage all out of office time with simple forms as well as approved time off such as vacations, personal days, comp days, etc. Take it a step further and it manages Travel with detailed plane itineraries and expense reporting. The purpose is single entry to gain many benefits.
You can start by cloning the mail calendar and adding key fields such as employee and department. From there I'm sure it will blossom into something similar above.
